Artnice Absorbent Kitchen Runner Mat, 17x59

A kitchen runner earns its place twice over: it catches the splashes and crumbs that would otherwise end up on the floor, and it gives your legs something forgiving to stand on while you cook. The Artnice mat is 17.3 by 59 inches, long enough to run the length of a bench or cover the stretch in front of a sink, and the neutral beige stays quiet against most cabinetry.

The face is a high-absorbency fibre fabric over a non-woven interlayer, which pulls water and oil away from the floor instead of letting it spread. Beneath, a textured rubber backing grips hard floors - hardwood, tile, linoleum and other slick surfaces - so the mat does not slide underfoot. At 0.3 inches thick it cushions long stretches of standing without becoming a trip hazard at the edges.

Vacuuming and spot cleaning handle most of the upkeep; for a deeper clean, machine wash separately in cold water with a mild detergent, skip the bleach, and line dry without wringing or ironing. Use it in front of the sink, in a doorway, laundry, hallway or anywhere that collects traffic. Place it on a dry floor, since a wet surface reduces grip, and check the backing occasionally for wear.
